Team building only works when every team member pitches in!

There’s someone like this in every team – someone who just won’t get involved. They might not look like ‘Bob’ here, but they’ll certainly share his attitude.

And the cause could be any number of things. Like shyness, or people skills, or even something sinister, like a burning desire to undermine every attempt at uniting the team.

We don’t know yet (we haven’t met your Bob!)...but we do know how to turn him (or her) into a fully-fledged all-singing member of the gang.

And we’ll do it without singling anyone out for special attention

Over the years, we’ve been observing, noting how quickly different types of people buy into the process. The exuberant types dive in head first, just as you’d expect, and as enthusiasm takes over the room, even the less confident members will suddenly find their voice.

Of course, if you’ve got someone in your team who thrives on negativity, they’ll be the last to finally throw caution to the wind. But we’ve found that people who undermine will fight the battles they can win...and when we build up the room to fever pitch, we’ll be drowning out the negative voices.

That’s when the age old saying kicks in: if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

The coaches' enthusiasm infected even the most reluctant of participants and for the first time everyone joined in (even though we were given no option!)

Of course, getting ‘Bob’ to sing on the day is only the first hurdle. The whole session is about the deeper lessons in teamwork, so the real challenge is increasing interaction and creating an open mind.

That’s why we’ve trained our singing coaches to spot the reluctant singers and quietly encourage them all the way through the session. Some people need to know ‘why’ as well as ‘how’, so we’ll offer some clarity - helping them to make connections and remove their own barriers.

And it’s the same on training days

The reluctant player is mainly a factor at team building events, but we take the same approach to training, where there’s no singing involved.

When we’re using voice and performance techniques to build sales and customer service skills, we still need everyone to cast off their demons.

“I’m not doing it!” just isn’t an option!
